The Other Holidays That Shoppers Celebrate
I just searched my personal inbox and found 17 retail and shopping emails, sent in the last two weeks, that focused on some aspect of “Winter Sale” or “Valentine’s Day.” Unfortunately, out of the 17, I can’t remember one email that sticks out to me. I know you had a crafty headline, and maybe even an exclusive deal, but with so many emails about the same thing, your email just didn’t stick out, sorry. So how do you get your subscribers to not only open your holiday emails, but remember it? Start sending out emails about the other holidays that your shoppers celebrate. The other holidays are not only valuable for your email marketing campaigns because they are still unique within the retail industry, but they are valuable because they are a holiday that we can all relate to.
The Super Bowl—The Most Basic Other Holiday
Although The Super Bowl is not an official holiday, it has certainly become an undeclared American holiday. The Super Bowl is not only about Football… It’s about parties, team colors, memorabilia, food, commercials, technology, and best of all, an excuse to feel pride. Think about it like this, who is your email audience, and how will they be taking part in the Super Bowl?
LOL—The Funniest Other Holidays
Embrace humor and fun in your emails by incorporating the not-so-common other holidays that most people find entertaining or out-of-the-box. For example, everybody is on the lookout around April Fools Day, take a leap and send out an email that pokes fun at products, rather than pushing the products or sales. Go outside the box and focus emails around holidays that can showcase products around entertaining themes like the following:- Get Out of the Doghouse Day
- Talk Like A Pirate Day
- Dress Up Your Pet Day
Entertainment—The Other Holidays We All Like to Watch
Everybody feels like they can be a cyclist when they are watching the Tour de France, and it is exciting events like this that provide entertaining email themes. To think of more ideas, go through your recent Facebook or Evite invites… Somebody probably had a party around one of these other holidays. Some of my favorite include:- Mardi Gras
- The Kentucky Derby
- The Grammys
- The Oscars
- Fashion Week
- Reality Shows and TV Series: The Bachelorette, Mad Men, True Blood, Glee
