Matthias Hollwich is the founder of HWKN, and was born and educated in Germany. He started his career in firms renowned for their groundbreaking work, such as Diller + Scofidio, and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture / Rem Koolhaas.
In 2008 he co-founded HWKN Architecture, and in 2020 he took sole ownership of the firm to continue his design legacy with a sharper, more distinct profile. Matthias brings a dual perspective to all of the firm’s projects, combining German precision and New York aspiration. Matthias was honored in Fast Company’s ranking of the world’s top 10 most innovative architects, and in Business Insider’s list of Top Business Visionaries. He is known for his work on new forms of expression and operational typologies. Matthias lectures widely on the topics of architecture, sustainability, aging and innovation at world-renowned conferences, including TED, PICNIC, Stelka, and the Conscious City conference.
